Klimno Bay

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachKrk island Klimno Bay

The bay of Klimno (or the cove of Soline Krk island as some call it) is placed in the eastern part of the island of Krk. Three small settlements are situated in the bay: Klimno, Soline and Cizici. The island is connected with the mainland by a spectacular bridge. You can reach Klimno if you turn left to Dobrinj on the main road, after Omisalj and Njivice.

Klimno bay has several sandy beaches:

Meline, placed in the western side of the gulf, is one of the most beautiful sandy beach on the Island. It is about 400 m long and 40 m wide, and known for its healing mud. You can walk there hundred of meters while the sea is still up to your knees. That makes Meline an interesting destination for the families with small children and for young people who want to play ''picigin'', football or volleyball.

There are two playgrounds for volleyball and one for football, a small bar. There is absolutely no shade so bring something for sun protection.

Krk island - Soline bay is located between Klimno, Cizici, Soline and Meline. Here was located salt-pan during the ancient times. Around the bay are located many private apartments for accommodation of guests. This bay is phenomenom because the level of sea in whole bay is maximum 1 meter high and water is warm almost 6 months in a year. Bay is rich with healthy mud.

Krk island - Komoriska beach is situated at the beginning of Klimno village. It is a small beach, 30 m long and 5 m wide with the fine sea sand, the same as in Meline. The advantage of Komoriska in comparation with Meline is a deep shade owing to near dense pine wood.

If you want something really peaceful we suggest the beach of Slivanjska, near Rudine. The beach has a fine sea sand, the transparence and the pleasant temperature of the sea. The beach is accessible by sea or by land.

Banculuka Beach

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachKrk island, Baska - Banculuka beach

A wealth of unspolled nature stretches from Baska town, Krk island , to the bay called Vela Luka. This series of beautiful bays is accessible from the sea and by the sea front dirth path. In one of them, Bunculuka Bay, the Bunculuka Naturist Camp is situated. It is equipped and divided up to accommodate about 1400 campers, whille the exuberant pine woods, Mediterranean vegetation and indentedness of the camp make it specially attractive.

A specially secluded FKK unit, the camp has its own reception, moneychnger, shop, restaurant, fast food kiosk, small market, fruit nad vegetable sales, an adequate number of sanitary facilities and every that is essential for this kind of holliday. Reservations of sites can be made in FKK Bunculuka, and caravans can be left the whole year round. The sporting facilities (tennis, miniature golf, volleyball) can be used in it make the camp particulary attractive.

The camping has a beautiful small sandy beach, and three other nice coves and sandy beaches can be found in walking distance from the camp or from Baska (about 1km or 15 minutes by foot from Baska along the coast to the east).

Banculuka is a naturist camping situated on a slope between two hills southeast from Baska on the island of Krk. I would recommend it to anyone seeking beautiful and almost untouched nature.

Camping's beach is a fine white pebble beach with easy and comfortable access to the water (no need for water shoes). It is also ideal for children. Right next to the beach there is a restaurant, newsstand, fast-food, small market, tennis, volleyball and miniature golf courses. The beach is equipped with showers. Deckchairs and beach umbrellas are available for rent.

In the high season the beach can be very crowded, not only with camping guests, but also with day-visitors from Baska. There is a small charge for day-visitors. If you prefer less people on the beach you can continue walking behind Banculuka where there is a number of extremely beautiful bays with pebbly beaches like Jablanova or Vrzenica. They are all naturist beaches. Foot path leading from Banculuka to those beaches is very beautiful, but also narrow and partly very rough and steep, so I wouldn't recommend it if you have mobility problems. Anyway, a pair of good walking shoes is a must. To reach Vrzenica it takes about 20 minutes of walk from Banculuka, Jablanova is a bit closer. After Vrzenica there are other beautiful bays like Dubna or Konjska but you will need about an hour of walk to reach them. None of those beaches has any facilities, except beach umbrellas and deckchairs to rent on Jablanova and Vrzenica, so bring with you all you need for a perfect day under the sun.

Islet of "PROIZD", immediately outside the bay of Vela Luka, is an oasis of untouched nature - crystal clear sea, rocks, white pebbles, naturist beaches and lush vegetation are its main attractions.

Korcula - a Little Dubrovnik!

South Dalmatia - Croatia travel highlights

Korcula island and the capital city of Korcula is situated on the northeastern end of the island, erected along its indented coast. It is made up of the old town on the small, oval peninsula, the Baroque quarters just under the old town walls and the new areas, which spread along the coast to the east and west of the old town centre. Marco Polo birth place, Moreska dance, St.Marco cathedral. beautiful beaches...

Korcula Croatia is one of the biggest islands of Croatia. Few people know that Marco Polo, the famous Venetian explorer was actually born here, in Croatia. The island’s capital has the same name.

This ancient city Korcula, called "Little Dubrovnik", is among the most beautiful towns on the Croatian coast and is known for its unique architecture. One of the main attractions is the house of Marco Polo, which can be visited in the old city center.

The biggest and the most beautiful building of Korcula is the Cathedral of St. Marco. South from it, there is the Bishop's Palace where the Abbatial Treasury of St. Marco is placed today with a rich collection of Croatian and Italian Renaissance artists, a collection of manuscripts and books and a collection of the ceremonial clothes. North from the Cathedral, there is a small church of St. Peter, the oldest preserved church in the town from the 11th century, on the western side of the square, there is Crkva Gospojina (Church of Our Lady) from 1483, a major Renaissance construction.

The Town Museum is situated in the palace Gabrielis, one of the most beautiful Korcula Croatia palaces, in the Renaissance style from the 16th century. From the palace Gabrielis towards the sea, you find two other interesting Palazzi, the palace Arneri and the palace Ismaelis.

A walk around the old city gives you the possibilty to see the old city walls and the many towers that protected the Korcula Croatia town against invadors.

The town of Korcula Croatia is well known for MORESKA – a traditional sword dance and drama that was common through the Mediterranean in 12th and 13th century, reaching Korcula in 16th century from Italy and Dubrovnik.

The dance originated in Spain and is associated to the conflict between Moors and Christians. In Dalmatia its popularity was almost certainly linked with the struggles against Ottoman Empire, above all with the victory over a Battle of Lepanto, the first major Ottoman defeat by the Christian powers, which ended the myth of Ottoman naval invincibility.

Through the centuries Moreska vanished from the Mediterranean and now days is only to be find in Korcula, where it is performed for over 400 year.

This sland is the largest of the green islands of the Adriatic. From time immemorial it has been forested, which was why it was given the name Black Island during the colonisation of the ancient Greeks.

The town is often referred as little Dubrovnik, because of its beauty and buildings.

The island is also famous for its sandy beaches. If you're staying in the town there is a sandy beach only a 15 minutes walking from the old town in Luka Korculanska Bay. You can also take a short taxi boat drive from the town harbor. Near the beach several bars are offering refreshment and food. The beach is popular with families with small children which enjoy shallow sandy waters of Kurculanska Bay.

Naturist beach on the island located near Vela Luka, on the small islet of Proizd
Here you'll find the list of nudist beaches including islands of Mljet, Peljesac Peninsula, Elafitti islands and Dubrovnik Area.

This island is one of the biggest islands of Croatia. Few people know that Marco Polo, the famous Venetian explorer was actually born here.

Lumbarda sandy beaches are one of the most beautiful on the island. Black island is one of the most beautiful islands of Croatia.

Pakleni Islands

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachHvar island , Pakleni islands beaches

The most popular beaches of the Hvar island /town Hvar/ are situated on the Pakleni islands. The name of this tiny archipelago (about twenty islets right opposite the town of Hvar) which extends undulating along the south side of Hvar comes from the word "paklina" (melted pine resin for 'rasping' boat plating). This archipelago is the most beautiful part of the Hvar riviera.

Pakleni(Hell) islands have numerous bathing places and a myriad of small, secluded beaches.

The name of the archipelago of Pakleni, (about 20 islets right opposite the town of Hvar) is originated from the noun paklina, a melted down pine resin used to coat the hulls of ships on these islands. The Islands can be easily reached by frequent taxi boats from the harbour, just outside the Arsenal.

The coast of the island of Sveti Jerolim is predominantly rocky, with also a nice beach with small shingle or coarse sand, if you need a more confortable access to the sea. The vegetation, which comes almost right down to the shore, is a mixture of shrub and pine groves, so if you pick your spot carefully you can have plenty of shade in the heat of the afternoon, with the sea at your doorstep when you need to cool off. There is a good restaurant.

On the island of Marinkovac there are two different bays situated on their own opposite site; Stipanska is the first one You can reach with the same taxi boat who goes before to Jerolim; from the docking You can move left or right to find a place to stay as better You want, or You can pass through the pinewood where a very nice restaurant and a rocky beach with wharf, will enjoy Your stay.

Marinkovac opens out the north side with two breathtaking bays: Zdrilca rich of good restaurants is also famous for having harboured many v.i.p.s as Bill Gates, Bernie Ecclestone, Ivana Trump, Luciano Benetton and... Mlin, going down from the taxi boat on your right and walking through the rocky street inside the pinewood You will finda wonderful bay with a nice pebble beach, and a little islet rich of sea urchins...
. No description anymore...You MUST... The Restaurant Tri Grede...another MUST!

Sveti Klement, most famous as Palmizana, who is the name of its principal bay (the other is Vlaka, on the opposite coast) is a small island in the South Adriatic, renowned for the highest number of sunny hours in the Mediterranean, a part of the Paklina archipelago south of the island of Hvar. ACI MARINA offers to the visitors with their boats all the accueil they need, together with a good choice of restaurants.

In 1999, Palmizana was declared one of the "10 Dream Points of the Adriatic". In a poll by the Cruising World magazine, thousands of yachtsmen said that the coast of Croatia is the most beautiful in the world, together with that of the caribbean. The Traveller magazine deckared the island of Hvar one of ten most beautiful islands in the world. And what would Hvar be without its archipelago and Palmizana? It seems almost unecessary to say that Palmizana is one of the most beautifuls places in the world.

This area of the Adriatic hides the greatest number of antique shipwrecks and places on the sea-bed where one can easily find amphoraes. The sea around Palmizana is a treasury of fish, coral and incredibly beautiful undersea landscapes.

The botanical gardens of Palmizana are full of exotic plants, tree-like opuntias, agaves, numerous other cacti and succulents, mimosas, eucalyptuses, laurels, olives and different kinds of aromatic herbs and plants. Their equisential, medicine made from rosemary, first manufactured in 1848 can still be found in every home medicine cabinet. The rosemary, which blooms several times a year on every slope on Palmizana, filling the air with it's heady scent gave Palmizana it's second name: The Island of the Rosemary. Aloa, the plant that is said to be given to mankind by God because it cures manny ills, even cancer, also grows everywhere.

Lokrum Island

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachLokrum Island, Dubrovnik premier nudist beaches!

Lokrum island is situated ten minutes by taxi boat from the old port of red-roofed town of Dubrovnik. Lokrum is honoured as one of Croatia's national parks and home to one of the country's premier nudist beaches. naturist beach on the easternmost point of the island of Lokrum, can be reached by boat from the Dubrovnik port.

The Lokrum island is a nature park with exotic tropical and subtropical plants and a unique botanical garden. The best bet is to catch one of the boats from the old city jetty (May-Oct 9am-6pm, every 30min, journey time 10min; 15kn return). Reputedly the island where Richard the Lionheart was shipwrecked, Lokrum is crisscrossed by shady paths overhung by pines. Extensive rocky beaches run along the eastern end of the island, and there's a nudist section (FKK) at the far eastern tip. Get married on Lokrum island!

The Lokrum Island is easy to reach from the old city of Dubrovnik every 30 minutes till 8 PM. The nudist part (the left part of the island) is very large and quiet (even in August!), and the water is wonderful...large rocks and easy access to the sea, and most of all few boats. In the middle of the path to the nudist part u can find a small bar, during the day, and a shower, but I didn?t try if it still works. It was very hot to stay on the rocks the whole day, but just above the rocks you'll find some nice places to rest a while for a slumber in the shade and a lot of paths in the bush to cross the island. The gay beach is, as always, at the end of the rocks, just before a wonderful water canyon with unbelievable water colours. A small paradise! Keep it clean and enjoy!

How to get there: Catch one of the boats running every 30 mins from the old harbour to Lokrum once on the island walk from the jetty up a small hill then bear left at fork (FKK sign points this way) walk along footpath passing public toilets on right until you reach a number of signs indicating nude beach FKK. walk down hill past drinks kiosk.

Large sections of rock which you must be careful with when walking about. Well secluded but not much shade. Accessing the water is tricky due to uneven rocks although some steps have been built between some rocks to improve movement. Once you find a nice spot it can be quite pleasant. Everyone nude and you can walk back up to kiosk any time for a drink and sit at one of the shaded tables in the nude.

How to get there: Ferry from Old Harbor Dubrovnik, and a short walk along the path to the left. FKK signposted at end.

Rocky promontory, seems quite a good size. Well used, no shade until well after lunchtime (end or August). Flat enough for reasonable comfort, mostly naturist, apart from a few (single?) men, who seem reluctant to strip off!

How to get there: Board the regularly scheduled boats from the old harbor near the arsenal on the east side of Dubrovnik. Once you arrive take the walking trail to the left and make a stop at the toilet if you need to ;). Proceed on past the sign that clearly states Nude Beach, No Cameras!

The Lokrum FKK has two sides to it-the good and the odd. The great thing is that everyone is without clothes, almost all of the shingles are smoothed by concrete and getting into the water is made easier by the addition of many ladders into the sea. The “other-side” is the handful of individuals who were there everyday lurking around and either staring or making sure that you saw that. It also had a little bit of a male pickup event, while subtle it was quite obvious with various individuals posing for admiring onlookers. Most of this occurred near the end of the beach. It is also on the path of every tourist boat that goes by slowly with cameras snapping. Even though these things happen I wouldn’t discourage anyone from using this beach because there are plenty of comfortable places to be oblivious to what is going on.

Jerolim Island

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachSeveral Recognized Nude Beaches

The rocky Jerolim Island in the Pakleni archipelago is a naturist paradise where nudity is acceptable everywhere, except perhaps in the island's small restaurant. It can be reached by a 10 minute ferry journey from the historic town of Hvar, on the island of the same name. Several other islands in this archipelago are used for nude bathing, including the neighbouring island of Stipanska, and there are boats in Hvar harbour that will take you to these FKK nude beaches.

The island of Jerolim (which is named after a 15th-century church which has now disappeared), is directly opposite Hvar town, and has a long-established naturist beach, equipped with showers, shop and restaurant. The busiest area is near the jetty but further away there are many isolated places. A ferry runs several times a day from Hvar harbour. Boats leave about every half hourfrom 9am to 1pm, and return at half hour intervals from 4pm to 6pm. Similar timings are used by boats to Stipanska. For further islands (Palmizana) boats leave hourly in the morning.

Large island with generally rocky beaches fringed by pine groves offering plenty of shade. Couple of fine shingle areas. Wear shoes when bathing as sea urchins can be a problem. The back of the island away from the jetty is more private than area around jetty and restaurant. Facilities do not open until mid to late June, so own supplies of water and food are essential early & late season. Very clean.

How to get there: By taxi boat from Hvar town. Choice of several boats running at least hourly until 13.00. Return at least hourly from 16.00 to 18.00. Cost 10 kuna return. Be sure to use same boat on outward & return trip as operators will look for you.

Paklina Beach

Nude BeachPaklina Beach, Island of Brac - Unofficial Nude Beach

Paklina Beach is located on the south coast of the Croatian island of Brac. It is 3km west of the town of Bol on the Zlatni Rat peninsula, which is known as the 'golden horn' because it has beautiful sandy beaches on both sides. The nude beach area is on the western side, north of the guard tower. To get there from Brac, take the passenger ferry or walk for 30 minutes along the pine clad coast. Water sports facilities are available and the crystal clear sea is excellent for snorkeling.

The picture (above) is the north west curve of the peninsula called "Zlatni Rat" on the island of Brac, which is used by naturists. In the south you see the isle of Hvar. From the little beach guard tower to the south there are no nude people; from the tower to the north most people are nude. Good spot to swim: there is a line in the sea separating boats and swimmers. We went to Bol by bus from Supetar (a little more than an hour); from the bus station to the Zlatni Rat beach was a 25 minutes walk. - Frans, (August 2005)

On the southern side of the Brac island, near the village of Bol, world famous sandy beach "Zlatni Rat"(Golden Horn) is located. In the near coves and bays many sandy and pebbled beaches can be found. One of the most known is Paklina FKK beach. It is located at the western end of the famous "Golden Horn" where you can find many people enjoying a relaxing day getting a full body tan. Their section is pebbled and if you like more private places, keep walking to the west where some nice small pebble and rocky coves can be found. Other beaches on the island can be found on the east coast, between Supetar and Sumartin.

Bol on Brac island is just about a hour away by boat from city of Split, which is second biggest Croatian city, well connected with the rest of Europe.
Brac also has it's own airport, enabling you to get to your destination really fast and convinient and spend beautiful holidays.

If you decided to spend active holidays in Croatia, this town is an ideal destination for you.

You have to hike about 2 km to get to the largest beach, but upon arrival, wow! Costa dei Barbari is great if you want a friendly, non-threatening clothing-optional environment. Aqua blue waters, completely natural setting. Most everyone is nude and man is again one with nature. Paradise! Cava di Sistiana

Nude BeachUnofficial Nude Beach

The many Cava di Sistiana nude beaches, which are situated in small tidal coves, can be found south of Sistiana Bay. Sistiana is a quarter-hour drive from Central Trieste, 13 km straight down the coastline toward Duino and the Airport, taking you through Barcola, Grignano and the Castle of Miramare along the way. The beaches in the Bay itself, close to the parking lots, are textile beaches (Caravella and Castelreggio).

A 10-minute hike through the cliffside scenery to the left of Beach Restaurant Castelreggio leads you to the nude beaches, which are situated on small tidal coves. Crystal clear waters and a tolerant, relaxed atmosphere with both nude and swimsuited folks. Those who are there for several hours may alternate between nudity and swimsuits as the spirit moves them and it's no big deal. Unlike some "familiar" nude beaches, this Coast promotes a freewheeling and indulgent naturist experience for singles and couples. No families or youngsters here. Locations are not strictly divided into "straight" and "all male" sections, they mix freely with each other. Clothing is optional throughout the entire coastline with wonderful facilities for swimming, sunbathing, and more. Isolated beaches are surrounded by high shrubs, craggy rocks and driftwood. Beyond the beaches, flat rocky cliffs extend for a few kilometers. It is very easy to traverse these outcrops, which are also clothing optional. You can sit on these cliffs with the ocean surging just meters below. On the right day, the waves crash like thunderclaps and white foam and spray lift high in the air. If you do not enjoy the heat of the nude beach, you can nestle beneath large stones to escape the breeze and find any degree of privacy you might prefer. You can only hear the sounds of nature and some quiet friendly maritime conversation, and on occasion you can see dolphins from the peak of these rocks. - triestenet.tripod.com

Lido di Dante nude beach is about 3 kilometers long and is situated immediately South of Ravenna, on the coast between the village of the same name and Lido di Classe. Low dunes divide the beach from a pinewood. Since July 2002 nudism has been legal on the part of the beach that is located 500 meters south of Camping Classe.

Nudists go on Lido di Dante's beach since the end of the 60s. As it usually happens in Italy, lately this beach became a meeting point for swingers, exhibitionists, males staring at nudist girls and amateur photographers. Nudists couldn't stand anymore this situation, so local naturist associations asked the police to fine those who behave badly. As many nudists crowded the beach, and many of them are tourists, local politics understood that repress nudism wasn't a good thing to do. It must be said that emilian people are more open-minded than the rest of italians, except people living in Trieste and its surroundings.

On the 2nd July 2002 the Commune of Ravenna issued an resolution that reserves 1 Km of Lido di Dante's beach for naturism. This beach is given in concession to the local nudist associations, so they can call the police to take away people that act badly.

In Summer the nudist beach is crowded by 1000 or maybe 2000 bathers; around 80% of them are Dutch, German, French and some English. - Manuel Birichino

Nude beach, FKK approved. Very beautiful beach, better than Lido Di Classe, very crowded... Easy to find in Ravenna, follow the street direction to Lido Di Dante or FKK and then looking for Ramazzotti CampGround - CAMPING CLASSE FKK". You can park there. and than walk on the beach (in south direction) - Walk 10 minutes and you'll find the FKK beach (1km) , after this first area for 3 km there are many gay men. - SBQR

Capocotta

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachOfficially Recognised Nude Beach since June 2000

The sandy beach of Capocotta is part of the Natural Reserve of Castel Porziano which occupies a 3km stretch of coastline between Ostia and Tor Vaianica, just South of Rome, near Pomezia. The 250m long section of the beach called Oasi Naturista di Capocotta was designated an official nude beach by the commune of Roma in June 2000. The main beach has good facilities including deck chairs, umbrellas, a bar/restaurant, showers and toilets.

The beach of Capocotta is situated on the coast south of Rome, between Ostia and Tor Vaianica. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Latium's littoral. In the 70s it was known as Il Buco (The Hole) because the first bathers reached the beach passing through a hole of the enclosure. Capocotta was part of an old estate. The owners wanted to build on it more than 1700 villas, but the Council of Public Works stopped them. Behind Capocotta there are tall ancient dunes, the only ones that remain after the rest of the south coast was lotted. Nudists of the early 70s choosed Capocotta because of its beauty and because very few people used to go there as it was a wild place. Typical textil bathers in fact look for sea-side resorts or want bars and restaurants by the beach. At that time there was none of them on Capocotta and on the outskirts. But, little by little, more people came to Capocotta: the near beach of Castelporziano was so crowded that bathers started to look for a better place. Castelporziano free beach was frequented by people that weren't rich enough to pay for sea-side resorts of Ostia.

At the end of the 80s the situation on Capocotta was tragic: nudists were besieged by people with bathing-suits, moralists, exhibitionists and males staring at nudist girls. Police raids against nude people, as usually wanted by moralists, changed things for the worse. Many nudists stopped going to Capocotta so came more exhibitionists, that are not afraid of the police (to them it is an exciting thrill!), and used to have sex on the beach or behind the dunes. I've been told that in the 80s Capocotta was used like back-drop for many porno movies!

In the 90s were built illegal kiosks on all 3 kilometers of Capocotta beach. In that kiosks were sold sandwitches, drinks and hot dishes, but the owners organized also night parties with loud music and drugs. They were occasions for selling sex behind the dunes! In spite of that sad situation, only nudists were persecuted by the police because of the lack of few centimeters of cloth.

In 1996 Capocotta's beach was included by the Ministry of Environment in the Natural Statal Reserve of Roman Littoral, so the Commune of Rome passed a bill of protection that provided for building 5 wooden huts (64 square meters), and entrusted a company for the bathing services, valorization and environmental protection of the beach.

Things did not go better! Because now the huts were legal, the managers begun to send away nudists that wanted to stay nude in front of the huts. Nudists could only undress on the beach between those new bigger kiosks. Some huts showed a sign that prohibited nude walking but accepted nude sunbathing. It is obvious that as now it was possible to rent umbrellas and chairs at the huts, more and more textiles came to the beach. Wooden bars and restaurants were even bigger than before! In week-ends Capocotta became a crowded beach, but in low season or in working-days it was still possible to have a nude walk on all 3 Km of Capocotta.

The local naturist association, UNI-Lazio, pressed the roman politicians asking for a resolution in favour of nudism, but it did not pass because some parties were against nudity. Two years later, in 1999, a new resolution (number 104 of 22nd July 1999) was presented and approved. It was choosed a space 250 meters long and a new hut, called Oasi Naturista di Capocotta, was built there on the beach.

On the 26th of May 2000, in the presence of the Environment Council Clerk of the Commune of Rome (Loredana De Petris), the Town Councillor of Rome (Pino Galeota) and some members of UNI and UNI-Lazio, it was officially inaugurated the first legal nudist beach of Italy! For the first time in italian history nude people could stay on a beach without any fear of the police.

Unfortunately things didn't go they way we thought. At first the number of nudists increased a little, but soon the beach was crowded by so many textiles like we've never seen before. Males staring at nudist girls (some even masturbate near them) still go to the beach: even if we send them away they come back after a while. We complain about italian police-force that do not help us. Capocotta's beach is not patroled. The only time police came on the beach fined nude people that was sunbathing out the boundaries of the Oasi Naturista; they did not fine bather on the dunes (forbidden zone) because only the harbour office's police can. Once we could walk nude on all 3 Km of the beach: managers of the huts only asked us to pass on the water-line. Now we cannot even walk nude 200 meters around any hut except our hut. At night there are rave parties by the biggest huts like before and no-one stops them even if the beach is part of a natural reserve! People dance on the beach with loud music and then use the dunes like a toilet!

On the 250 meters of sand where nudism in legal, nudist are usually less than 50% of those present. On week-ends, when most of the textiles arrive, nudists are less than 20% of the bathers! So Capocotta's nudist beach looks more like a clothing-optional one. First time nudists, newcomers and expecially ladies are not at ease. But Oasi Naturista di Capocotta is the only place in the center of Italy where nudism is permitted.

Important:

Uni-Lazio has nothing to do with the commercial management of the kiosk called "Oasi Naturista di Capocotta" !
Dunes are forbidden zone so do not go there.
Do not leave litters on the beach.
Leave your bathing suites at home!!

It is still possible to be nude in the places between the huts of Er Zagaglia and the Settimo Cielo, then between this last one and the Oasi di Capocotta. It is no more possible to practise nudism in front and between the Oasi di Capocotta, the Mecs Village huts and the Villaggio Tognazzi houses. Public transports from Rome: by "Piramide" station (underground B) get on the train to Ostia (Ferrovia Roma-Lido) then, at the terminus, get on the bus number 07 for Villaggio Tognazzi. Get down at "Porto di Enea / Oasi Naturista di Capocotta" stop. - written by the excellent Manuel Birichino

Don't miss the nude beach of Capocotta, near Rome (easy to reach by city train). It's very popular (don't try to go there by car, you'll definitely NOT find a parking) and with good facilities (showers, restaurants, etc). - Mau

Nude BeachSanta Severa, Italy - Unofficial Nude Beach

Santa Severa is a coarse sand beach is near the Castle of Santa Severa, in the Lazio region of Italy.

The nude beach is situated near the Castle of Santa Severa. Go to the textile beach at the right side of the castle, then walk around the castle on the rocks by the sea side; you might have to walk with your feet in the water for some meters. On the other side there is a nude beach, but the first part of it is an archeological site, so you have to walk for one hundred meters further in the direction of the military base. If you pass by that base, around 20 minutes of walking from the Castle, there is better sand. Attention: one kilometer further there is the Natural Reserve of Macchiatonda, managed by WWF, where nudity is forbidden because of textile tourists and the forester. - written by the excellent Manuel Birichino

Marina di Alberese

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachMarina di Alberese, Italy - Officially Recognised Nude Beach since June 2003

Marina di Alberese is a fine sand beach, part of the Parco Regionale della Maremma (click for map), is located 25km South of Grosetto town, near the Ombrone river. Pay for parking at the offices near Alberse village (costs about 4 euros) and try to park in the often full Marina di Alberese car park. Walk along the beach in a southerly direction for about 1.5km to reach the nude beach area. There is also a bus shuttle service every 30 minutes between Alberese and Marina di Alberese. The ticket cost 1,20 euros in Summer 2004.

NOTE: This is the nude beach where two naturists were arrested by the local police in July 2002 for sunbathing naked about 2km south of the crowded part of the beach. They were subsequently cleared of charges of indecency in June 2003 and since then naturism has been considered legal on parts of this beach and on many other secluded beaches in Italy.

The nude beach at Marina di Alberese, seven kilometers from the village, is inside Parco Regionale della Maremma. The road that leads there is easy and flat but not a short walk. It runs across the park and under the hills of the Uccellina, through fields (owned by the Azienda Agricola Regionale dell'Uccellina) and the pine woods, crowded with singing cicadas. The beach itself is very long, reaching down to Talamone, and of varying width, on the narrow side at Marina di Alberese, extremely wide at Bocca d'Ombrone. It is sandy and nice everywhere. At Marina di Alberese it can get pretty crowded in July and August and on Saturdays and Sundays. It is serviced with a handful of bars, a picnic area and toilets. Topless is allowed. The parking lot (shadowed by the umbrella pine trees) allows 300 cars, tickets (4.60 euro whole day, 2.20 morning or afternoon alone) can be bought both in Rispescia (in the square, beside the bakery) and in Alberese (at the park's offices and info center). No cars (or bikes) without the ticket are allowed in the park. Bicycles enter for free, as well as tourists that take the bus (1.20 euro per person) from Alberese. - By Alice Twain, Summer 2004

The park, covered in woods and typical Mediterranean vegetation, borders onto the coast (Marina di Alberese), which can be reached by car, though this depends on whether there is room in the car park (the alternative is a little bus that runs regularly from the centre of Alberese). The nude beach is long and sandy and edged in one side by splendid pine trees and wild undergrowth. A unique experience. - FCI

The main nude beach on Isola d'Elba is situated on the southern coast of the island where you can find two naturist areas at the end of the long beach of Lacona.

Apparently, Napoleon Bonaparte's sister Pauline loved to swim in the nude off the coast of Isola d'Elba and one of its beaches was named La Paolina in her honour.

One of the most beautiful places that I have ever been is Isola d'Elba, Elba Island. Its not too dissimilar to Waiheke, but has the bluest of waters and amazing architecture. - mattyc

Guvano Beach

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachGuvano Beach, Italy - Officially Recognised Nude Beach

The pebble beach of Guvano at Corniglia, near Levanto, was famed in the 1970s as one of Italy's few nude beaches. It's in the region of La Spezia, about halfway between Genoa and Pisa, just off the A12 Genova-Livorno motorway. Close to the popular tourist spot of Cinque Terre (Five Villages) on the Ligury Coast. Descend a steep path that leads from the Corniglia-Vernazza railway track or pay to go through the unused train tunnel. See reports below for precise directions. Very popular with nudists. No camping on the beach.

From the Corniglia train station (follow road north, go over tracks, then zigzag below the tracks, following signs to the tunnel in the cliff; walk past proprieta privata sign) travelers buzz the intercom and the hydraulic 'Get Smart'-type door is opened from the other end. After a 20-minute hike through a cool, moist, and dimly-lit unused train tunnel, you'll emerge at the Guvano nude beach — and be charged 5 euros. The beach has drinking water, but no toilets. The crowd is Italian counterculture: pierced nipples, tattoed punks, hippie drummers in dreads, and nude exhibitionist men. The ratio of men to women is about three to two. About half the people on the nude beach keep their swimsuits on. Bonfires bring this varied crowd together each night. - Rick Steves 1998

Guvano on the Cinque Terre (Italia) is a fine place for nude sunbathing and swimming. Even during what I thought was peak time (August) this year, there were only a few dozen people. The biggest problem? Jellyfish. While their sting is relatively shortlived (a few hours), you might not be used to the pain induced in the, er, normally less exposed areas of the body. YOW! - Michael Horne 11/04/98

The local gov't in the Cinque Terre has recently made it much more difficult to get to Guvano Beach by locking the abandoned rail tunnel. You now have to hike about 40 minutes from Corniglia (towards Vernazza) and take a grueling, steep, scary trail down from the main path. And of course, getting back up is even harder. This means that only a few hardy souls make it to the nude beach. I was there in early July and there were only about 20 people on the beach all day. Beautiful beach, though; I think it's worth the hike. - Mike 08/01/02

The earlier comments about access are no longer true, at least as of late Sept. 2002. You can access by the old rail tunnel (the doors are now permanently open). You can also reach it by the path mentioned, but it is hard to find from the top. - Rick Steves 10/09/02

Guvano nude beach is not easy to find, and the locals don't promote it to the tourists so it is usually very quiet and peaceful. It is also known to be a nudist beach, so you are likely to find half the people on the beach completely naked. Don't let that stop you from going, nudity is optional. How to find the allusive beach? Find the bottom of the long stairway that leads from the Corniglia train station up to the village. (Don't go up the stairs). Walk down along the ramps that are just above the seashore and continue to the right. The path turns and will take you behind some small houses and you will find yourself in front of a gate at the entrance to an abandoned train tunnel. (If you see a sign that said private property.ignore it!). Ring the bell that is located to the left of the tunnel gate and the gate will automatically open and then close behind you. (You may feel like you are doing something wrong, but don't worry about it. Just walk on). Walk through the tunnel for about 15 minutes until you reach the end. Don't be alarmed if you hear trains passing in the tunnel that is adjacent to the one you are walking in. When you come out of the tunnel you will find a beautiful beach awaits you. Someone will be waiting near the exit of the tunnel and will expect a fee for the use of the tunnel and beach (usually 5 Euro). The main Corniglia beach is opposite the Corniglia train station there is a long beach, but it is mostly rocky and becomes very small with the high tide.

Riva Bella

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachRiva Bella Plage, Corsica - Unofficial Nude Beach

The beautiful white sands of Riva Bella Plage begin approximately 3km south of Bravone. The nude beach has sunbeds and umbrellas for hire and there is also a bar and sailing school. The Riva Bella Naturist Resort has a wide variety of accommodation right on the beach, including apartments, bungalows and 'Bengali' tents.

Far from towns, a beautiful nude beach of fine sand, more than one kilometre long, immersed in the sunshine, in the clear waters, in the enlivening air, invites you to live, freely, with your family, and to fill up with energy in an attractive atmosphere, in the heart of a jealously preserved nature. In the sweet-smelling bush, the Riva Bella Centre Naturiste has 12 cottages, 75 traditionally constructed and refinedly comfortable bungalows, 170 camping areas with luxury sanitary facilities, and enables you to return to the authentic values of naturism.

ocation: Riva Bella is part of the France 4 Naturism network - the only Riva 1.jpg (97850 bytes)resort on Corsica that has apparently met the standards of cleanliness and service for a group of about a dozen naturist properties located through France. The entrance is located about six kilometers north of Aleria, (perhaps 70 kilometers or so south of Bastia) but there is about another four kilometers on a dirt road that takes you out the resort itself. It should be noted that with the exception of a few hundred meters of controlled access roadway in Bastia, there are no expressways to be found on Corsica. Most highways are simply two lane roads subject to delays behind produce trucks and camping caravans. But Corsica is not a place you visit because you're in a hurry. Just be careful in timing your ferry departure.

The resort itself stretches along about 1500 meters of beachfront property, bordered by Riva 2.jpg (44507 bytes) a steep wooded bluff with several little bungalows, most of which are mostly hidden by the trees. The naturist beach stretches quite a ways north beyond the resort, but eventually you come to a rock barrier posted 'no trespassing.' This is one of six or seven naturist venues on the Costa Serena, none of which are particularly convenient for sightseeing. Riva Bella maybe the least so simply due to the long drive off the main road, and a gate policy that doesn't allow one to enter the grounds (by car) after 10:00 p.m., but more about that later.

Amenities: We had a really good time at Riva Bella, but to say the place is a bit quirky may be an understatement. The bungalow was very charming in a rustic sort of way, built around a room that was barely big enough for a bed, dresser, and adjoiningRiva 3.jpg (142230 bytes) closet. There was also a small bedroom that we used mainly for storing luggage, and a very space efficient bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. It seems that the hot water heater couldn't have been much bigger than a coffee can - even with the consistently low water pressure, you showered in fear of the inevitable cold rinse cycle. (Their official website has panoramic photos of the bungalows that create the illusion that these units are a bit larger than they actually are.) But the most interesting aspect of these quaint little villas was the dining area, actually on a small enclosed veranda with a compact cooking area hidden behind a folding curtain. A three burner propane stove, a small microwave, a dorm room fridge, and a hodge-podge of utensils provide the necessary resources for food preparation, but not much more. And if you're inclined to get an early start, be forewarned that it's typically a bit chilly out there on the porch at six in the morning, Again - just quirky!

The grounds are quite expansive with a campground, a bar near the beach, a day spa, a full-service restaurant (sort-of!), a small grocery store, and a sizeable lake with a few paddle boats available for guest use. One of the oddities was the need for clothing in just about any of the on-site establishments, including the bar, the store, and the restaurant. We only ate at the restaurant once, pleased to discover an extensive menu - only to find out that most items on the menu were not actually available during our visit. With my limited French, and the server's limited English, we had quite a time establishing what was or was not available. (She had provided us with English language menus, but she couldn't read English well enough to determine what we wanted - sort of a comedy of errors.) Service was slow and we didn't even have the luxury of sitting out au naturel, so we didn't bother to return.

During our mid-June visit, we had the sense that they were far below capacity, and those Riva 4.jpg (74416 bytes) who were there seemed to be couples quite a bit older than ourselves. We saw a couple families with young children, but that was the exception rather than the norm. Of course, this was before French schools would have let out for vacation, so it's difficult to gauge what the place would be like in July.

Back to the quirkiness, we failed to notice a sign near the entrance that indicated that the front gate would close at 10:00 p.m. Being our first time on Corsica, we were eager to explore the island and thought nothing of a mid-evening meal in Bonifacio (a good 90+ minutes to the south) for a late night return to our 'villa.' You can imagine our surprise when we pulled up to the gate at 1:00 a.m. to find the road blocked by a huge barrier that advertised an opening time of 7:00 a.m.! There was however a footpath around the gate that led back to the two kilometers of dirt road winding back to the bungalows. So off we went into the night, abandoning the car near the gate, cautiously finding our way in the dark of the night amidst the llamas. (Oh, did I mention the llama farms that surround the property? Charming by day, but just plain creepy by night!) Three days later, we made a conscious decision to miss closing time, and we were mentally prepared for the late night stroll with flashlight in hand. Could it be that we are the only guests at Riva Bella who desired the luxury of venturing off property beyond curfew? Quirky, I say!

What we liked: Even though the bungalows were a bit rustic, we found ours to be very charming. We especially enjoyed leaving the windows open at night to hear the crashing surf. The beach was long enough for a bit of meandering, and the expansive grounds provided enough room for daily walks without feeling crowded.

What we might have hoped for: A later 'curfew,' a full-service restaurant that really features full-service, and fewer restrictions about wearing clothes in the areas of commerce. We felt like we spent much of the week figuring out the 'local customs' as to where to be naked and where to be clothed. And oh, the lake looks quite enticing in the publicity photos, but in reality, it was pretty stagnant and less than pleasing for the olfactory senses.

Nearby attractions: As it happens, Riva Bella is not particularly close to anything on the island, though having said that, the island isn't that big. Think of the state of New Jersey with a mountain range down the middle, and you've pretty much got it. Listed below are a few of our daytime ventures that were well within driving distance.

Cap Corse - Cap Corse is the northerly most tip of the island outlined by a windy road said to date back to the wagon wheel ruts of Napoleon's crew. Even though the guide books suggested this was a six hour drive, we did the math and figured we could do it in roughly half that. Six hours and mostly frayed nerves later, we had to concede that the guide book was right. Better to start early in the day so you can take a few breaks along the way.

TER "Tremblor" Train - A narrow gauge railway runs down the spine of the island rattling along as if the rails could split any moment - but apparently, they never do. Definitely a milk run (quite literally) for locals, hikers, and tourists, a ride on the TER will give you a very different feel for Corsica and its people. We bought a pass for the week for about 45€ a piece. You can get more details on the official website here.

Cascade des Anglais - We rode the train into the mountains, then hiked about two kilometers up the hill to discover the Cascade des Anglais and the nearby Fort Di a Foce. We even discovered a couple German guys skinny-dipping in a pool just downstream from the falls. There are several such day-hikes around the island. We look forward to exploring a few more of these on our next trip.

Family Factor: Well, I'm just not sure. Given the timing of our visit, it's hard to tell if the place becomes overrun with teenagers in the month of July, though I sincerely doubt it. For starters, the bungalows are so compact - even for two, that using the bunk beds in the adjoining room for children instead of luggage (as did we) would result in a very high ratio of humans per square foot of space. One bad weather day, and you'd all go nuts. But what's more, this simply seems more like a couples place than a family place. Not that we saw even a trace of 'inappropriate behavior,' but simply in terms of keeping the kids entertained. The fact that there's no pool doesn't help. And . . . if we had needed to make that midnight walk with small children in tow, I think the 'quirky' labels would have become a bit more severe. All said, there are better kid options on the island.

Nude BeachLinguizzetta, Corsica - Tolerated Nude Beach

The Linguizzetta region, about 55km south of Bastia on the east coast of Corsica, has one of the longest naturist beaches in Europe, measuring over 7km in length. The beach, which starts just north of Bravone, is composed of expanses of fine white sand and the sea is particularly clear and blue in this region. There are several nudist resorts adjacent to the nude beach including Piana Verde, Bagheera, Corsica Natura, Club Corsicana and Les Eucalyptus Camping.

The most Northern naturist possibilities along the Eastcoast of Corsica immediately form a unique entity. In the municipality of Linguizzetta, about 55 kilometres under Bastia, lies a beautiful naturist beach, which is at least seven kilometres long. The most Northern area of this beach is Piana Verde al Mare, the most Southern part is Bagheera. Between these two, every possibility of naturist recreative accommodation you can imagine is being offered: camping, fully-equipped caravans for rent, apartments, studios or little houses suitable for permanent residence. Across the entire length of this beautiful beach, a long, uninterrupted naturist walk along the shore is possible. You don't need to starve or be thirsty while at it, because this beach counts as many as nine places with eating- and drinkingfacilities, which are perfect for lunch and/or diner. These grounds are accessible for day tourism, too!

Nude BeachCumbre del Sol nude beach is situated 5km southeast of Benitachell, at the northern end of Costa Blanca. This 500 metre long beach is composed of pebbles and surrounded by high cliffs, giving it a very sheltered situation. The views from this beach are glorious, on a clear day you can see the Balearic Islands. Most of the nude sunbathing happens at one end of the beach (not the end where the bar is located).

My wife and I have just come back from a week in Javea and visited Cumbre del Sol every day. It takes about 20 minutes by car from Javea. The beach is half textile and half nudist, but there does not appear to be any conflict. There are two beach bar/cafes here, we used the one directly on the beach (too lazy to walk to the other) this bar was a little expensive but nevertheless very good. A large beer was 3 Euros and you could get quite an assortment of simple snack type meals. This bar is in at the textile end of the beach and therefore you need to cover up to use it. The other bar/cafe seemed to have a bigger choice of food. There was some work going on at the car park to repair the sea defences but this was not really a problem. There are sunbeds and shades available for hire but are expensive at 14 Euros a day. The pebbles can be a bit hard on the feet so I would suggest visitors take some sort of beach shoes to wear. The top photo above shows the nudist end of the beach, and the lower photo is a view towards the textile end of the beach and shows the little bar we used on the right and the car park on the left, you can also just see the other bar on the edge of the car park. We liked this area and this beach so much that we have already booked to go back in September 2007. - Tim & Hazel. (July 2006)

La Chiappa

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachYou must pay an admission fee to enter La Chiappa Vacation Village and access the private nude beaches. The village is situated on the Sartène Headland, a few kilometres east of Porto Vecchio, and has many facilities including a swimming pool and tennis school.

La chiappa is located on one of the most beautiful parts of this island. Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio (small towns near the resort) both have great landscapes and are very crowded in the summer. There are good clubs and restaurants but don't expect to find something spicy in these small towns. They are regular towns but very crowded at this time of year. Some people going to Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio are VIPs. This part of Corsica is known to have big houses for singers, actors, soccer players........ But I repeat if you want to stay nude, you must stay in "La Chiappa" or in some few beaches not very well known. Topless is admitted on every Corsican beach (and it's very common, from teen girls to grandmothers) but complete nudism is reserved to some beaches or resorts.

Costa Verde

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachCosta Verde is a very long, sandy stretch of beach on the South West coast of Sardinia. It is also very peaceful, perhaps why the Costa Verde is dubbed 'the silent coast'. As it is rarely crowded, it's fairly easy to practise naturism in the nude beach area towards the South end of the beach.

My girlfriend and I found a great stretch of nude beach on the southwest coast of Sardinia, Costa Verde. Miles of relatively deserted coastline offered very good privacy. Of the few other beach goers, most were also nude. A wonderful Mediterranean experience! - CA

Studland Beach

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachStudland Bay is situated on the Isle of Purbeck headland, about eight miles southwest of Bournemouth. The northern part of the main beach has traditionally been used for naturism, although restrictions have been applied since the National Trust took over the local nature reserve. See below for beach reports. Read more about Studland beach here. There is also a Studland Nudists Campaign to reclaim the naturist area lost due to National Trust action.

Studland beach is truly great when its warm - the best, whitest sand in the UK backed by sand dunes and trees. Very popular with many naturists, can get very busy at weekends but a great mixed crowd - families, young couples etc. - London Joe.

General

Studland beach is located on the north-eastern tip of the part of Dorset known as the ' Isle of Purbeck', separated from Bournemouth by the entrance to Poole harbour. The estate which owns the beach and surrounding heathland nature reserve was privately owned but has now passed into the hands of the National Trust . Studland is, for most of its length, a traditional family beach. However naturists have traditionally used the northernmost part, together with the nearby dunes. Since the change of ownership there have been complaints from local beachgoers that the NT has placed restrictions on the area used by naturists. On the positive side, nude use of the part of the beach now seems to be officially recognised by the Trust.

Access & Parking

There are two main ways of getting to Studland by car:
From the Purbeck (west) direction take the A351 from Wareham, turning left on to the B351 for Studland before reaching Corfe Castle. In Studland drive through the village and follow signs to the Studland Beach car park - (NT-owned Knoll CP costs £4 in June and £6.50 in July. The fee allows you to use any NT CP in Studland area.) Now walk north along the beach or tracks in the dunes until you reach the nude section which is marked by signposts on the beach and in the dunes.
From the Bournemouth (east) direction, a ferry runs from Sandbanks across the entrance to Poole harbour to the northern tip of Studland Heath. The distance is short, but at peak times there can be a long queue for the ferry (fare £2.20) . Shortly beyond the ferry there is an NT paying car park From here you walk east and then south along the beach past Shell Bay. Many visitors appear to park along the verge of Ferry Road. Alternatively walk along the road to "Fire Point 6" and then through the nature reserve to the beach.

[Icarus comments:]
"The first time I went to Studland I had heard that it could be difficult to park, and that it's quite a distance from the car park to the naturist beach, so I took a bike in the back of the car, parked in the village and cycled down through the car park and along the wet sand at the water's edge to the naturist section. It would probably be just as easy to cycle along the road towards the ferry to fire point 6 and down the path that comes out in the middle of the naturist section. Other times I've parked on the verge near fire point 6 and walked, but I hear that's being discouraged because of the number of cars being broken into there."

By Public Transport:

For those without a car, take the train to Poole or Bournemouth, then get the bus service to Swanage - Wilts and Dorset service number 150 from Bournemouth to Swanage (also passes Branksome station) and get off AFTER the ferry. Stay on the bus past the stop at the Swanage/Studland side of the ferry, then get off at the next one. You ask for "Fire Point Six " or "FRP6". The walk along the path through the scrub brings you out onto the beach right in the middle of the naturist section. It's the shortest of all possible walks (Shell Bay is next, then Studland "Knoll" carpark last) unless you have a boat! However, it does mean crossing the dunes, whereas the other routes (except at very high tide) do allow the whole walk to be on firm sand to minimise the amount of sand which collects inside your footwear. The bus goes all the way to Swanage, so on reverse journeys the opposite applies:- stay on the bus past Studland village AND past the main beach carpark access for well over a mile of the toll road to FRP6. The driver should know where you mean - if not, just tell her/him to look out for a large collection of cars parked at the side of the road about half a mile from Shell Bay.

Description

This is a popular beach, probably the most popular naturist beach along the South Coast and one of the best known in Britain. On a busy day, this would not be the best choice for those seeking solitude. The beach, which faces south-east, consists of sand, with dunes and heath to the rear. National Trust-employed wardens patrol regularly and will move naked people who stray outside the nude area (marked by posts). The beach is regularly cleaned. Behind the nude section the dunes are increasingly used by gays the further you get from the sea towards the wooded area fronting the nature reserve.
Because of the ferry and the propensity of bored adults in families to go for a long walk, the nudist section gets a lot of passers by. However they stick to the area immediately in front of the waves and don't interfere. Although there is more seclusion in the dunes, these are perhaps best avoided - for the reasons set out below.

[Kevan comments:]
"If you want a particularly pleasant piece of beach at Studland, go where I go. Knoll end of the naturist section - about 50 yards along from the posts. There you'll find nothing but folk enjoying the atmosphere, relaxing, sunbathing, and having a swim."

"Just to lay people's fears to rest regarding the voyeurs:

Over the years, I've introduced quite a few people to naturism at Studland and if you know the score it's as pleasant an experience as any other beach, maybe more so as the beach is (in my opinion) the finest in Britain.
Studland has a lot of voyeurs but for the most part they stay in the dunes where there are people happy to provide something for them to watch.
If you want to avoid them, choose a spot on the beach itself or in the first ridge of the dunes. The regulars generally chase off any undesirables that stray into this area. Walking down the path from the road, the area to the left is mainly frequented by gays and is therefore much more peaceful. The pests don't wander over there and the guys aren't interested in looking at anyone.
I hope the adverse reports don't put off any new visitors, as Studland is a beatiful beach. The bay has a man-made spit across it so the water is like a lagoon, consequently it is often very warm. When the tide is right, I've known mediteranean like temperatures there."

"The naturist section has the cleanest sand and water but the sea was a little too cold for comfort.. . No problems with.... passing textile strollers who seemed disinterested in the bronzed bodies taking in yet more sun."

Facilities

There are toilets and an NT-run cafe at Studland village and toilets at the car park near to the ferry.

Water Quality

OK. A few too many boats off shore at times, some seaweed, a non-shelving beach and no surf.. The seawater meets the lower EEC Bathing Waters Directive standard. No routine sewage discharge.
Water meets Environment Agency "guideline quality" standard.

Trip report: Jube 2005

"We and our famillies love this beach, but we are not allowed on in the height of summer as we have a dog. We are allowed on the textile side with our dog not, so why not the naturist side? We were also surprised with the meerkat activity - seems to be getting worse, even the man selling ice creams said so. He says the wardens have no effect due the lookouts, who shout warnings to the perpetrators in their beach shelters. Why cannot these people go elsewhere and leave these wonderful beaches for real naturists and their famillies to enjoy."

Trip report: September 2004

"I visited Studland beach over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the mixture of people, both families and couples as well as individuals enjoying the sun and surf. The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, so much so I ended up plucking up the courage to remove my top and bottom and enjoy the radiant sun on my body.

Well worth the visit, were going back later this week, taking my husband with me this time, to sum up studland, I would best describe it as a safe and comfortable environment for everyone."

Trip report: August 2004

"I was at Studland beach on Saturday 14th August, a lovely sunny day and beach was quite full. In mid afternoon, a Police helicopter began to fly up and down the beach and then began to descend over the dunes, hovering quite low. I assume they had spotted some undesirable behaviour and were trying to scare the persons concerned. The rest of the beach occupants watched and ignored the helicopter - so much for quiet policing and a waste of tax payers money. The infamous red topped posts that mark the 'new' naturist area are now luminous green. It's still a great beach."

Trip report: August 2004

"Having experienced nude sunbathing on holiday abroad I joined CCBN and have been plucking up the courage to go nude in the UK. Last week (August 2004) I was of work with stress and was staying in Dorset for a few days rest. I plucked up the courage to visit Studland on my own, and what a revelation!

I was able to relax completely in a friendly and safe enviroment. The beach and weather were fantastic and even the sea was not too cold. I arrived early found a spot 50 yards in from the markers and, not wanting to intrude, away from the few couples who had already arrived. However within an hour or so I was surounded by a number of friendly couples. I chatted with two couples who made be feel at ease and welcome.

I was able to sunbathe, swim and find peace on Studland. The naturist area is quieter and populated by nice, polite and friendly people. If you have any doubts about naturism visit Studland."

Trip report: July 2004

"My wife and I were taken to this beach almost by accident by our friends who reside at Wool. They were quite embarrassed at the fact that we had landed in the middle of a Nudist Beach. I would say that it certainly saved the day. That was last September (2003). It was my first experience with nude sunbathing, I'm sure that I wouldn't be the first to wonder their reaction at the site of a beautiful women as nature intended. But was very pleased to find no reaction, it was certainly not a sexual thing but a very liberating experience. We positioned ourselves in the dunes, and found it mildly amusing at the amount of guys wandering past, some displaying their wares in quite a prominent way. Surely it would be better if everyone was to blend, then no one would cause offence. I have no problem at all with gay men, and struck up a few conversations, but my friend would have run a mile if one had struck up a conversation with him.

I was the only one that stripped off, and felt that I had to lay outside of the group so as not to offend. However we have had our 2nd spell at Studland July 2004, Our friends had come round to the idea that my stripping off should not be considered abnormal, it was much easier for them as when they approaced me they could at least see where they were going, Water was cold but we had a good showing of the sun, very envious of the totally brown bodies around, and thanks to the kind gent that gave us some proper tent hooks for our shelter.

My recommendation is visit Studland - if you've never tried nude swimming and sunning you have missed out on a very liberating experience.
[We] will certainly go back next year...

Trip report: August 14th 2003
"I had my first naturist experience on Studland on Aug 14th. I decided to check it out after reading your information on the NUFF beaches guide. I arrived in the Knoll car park and 7.20 with my wife who wanted to stay in the car. By 7.45 I was walking completly naked in the sea. It was really great and I can't wait to repeat the experience next time I go. The only two down points were: 1. the endless parade of men in the sand dunes looking at everyone and 2. running back to the car before the gate shut at 8pm!"

Trip Report: August 2003 - by Iain and Janet

"We did it at Studland! Became naturists that is. On our recent holiday to Dorset, my partner Janet and I were walking down Studland beach and came across the naturist area. Without any hesitation we picked our spot and, for the first time ever, we both stripped off. Both Janet and I enjoyed the experience so much we actually changed our holiday plans and came back the next day and even managed to squeeze in a few hours on the beach before driving home on Bank Holiday Monday! The feeling of being naked amongst so many other like minded people was such a wonderful sensation - absolutely incredible, we have not stopped talking about it since. We are now hooked..."

Trip Report: August 2003 - by Helen & David

"We had an excellent few days on this beach during the recent hot weather. The following may be useful to others: The Knoll car park is now £6. It was full most days by about 10.30/11.00am (this was on weekdays). There is an overflow car park, but it adds another half a mile to what is already a fairly long trek, particularly with small children.

The beach was packed, and almost everyone was nude, the main exception being a couple of hundred yards either side of the refreshment wagon, where the majority were clothed (despite this being right in the centre of the beach). Worth bearing in mind if, like us almost newbies, you summon up the courage to walk nude to buy the ice creams, only to find when you get there that you're the only naked people amongst textiles.

We were warned by some locals that thefts of personal belongings from people swimming/going for a walk are commonplace, particularly on the beach immediately in front of the dunes, to where the perpetrators make a quick getaway. We took the precaution of moving a row or two nearer the water on subsequent days, and asking friendly looking neighbours to look after our stuff. Overall though, a fantastic time, and memories to treasure."

Trip Report: June 2002 - by Mike

" It's 15 years or more since I've been anywhere naturist - my wife and I used to go to Yugoslavia - so the whim that took me to Studland Bay was accompanied by some trepidation.

In contrast to niggardly, stony Norman's Bay and Birling Gap, Studland Bay is a generous sweep of luxuriously soft sand.

I parked in the Knoll Car Park - £4 and soon to be more - and set off along the busy textile beach. Usual beachgoers and several school parties. It's a good half mile till one sees the wonderful "naturists may be seen beyond this point" sign, though before you notice the sign you notice the naturists just beyond it. One step past the sign and I shed the shorts without any of the inhibitions I was to feel two days later at Norman's Bay and Birling Gap.

The Studland beach is wide. Hard sand near the water, lots of soft squeaky sand then the dunes. I jogged liberatedly naked along the waterline. As I went further along the beach the couples became rarer, the single and double males more numerous. Along the edge of the dunes men, presumably gay, stood heads erect (I didn't look any closer) on the look out. (Meerkats is a wonderfully observant description). When all I could see were males I turned back and settled for a while in the more mixed area. The beach affords plenty of space for private territory. The sun was strong and not wishing to singe delicate parts I decided to go for lunch, reluctantly re-textiling at the sign.

Later I drove to the end of the road, to where the Poole ferry lands. Rather than pay another £4 in the car park there I parked, along with at least 40 other cars, on the wide road verge and walked back to the car park and through it to the busy, expansive northern end of beach.

From here it is is a pleasant mile or so to the sign marking the north end of the naturist section, though it is quaintly preceded by another sign warning that one may see naturists 900 yards (or was it metres?) ahead. At the start of the naturist section was a gaggle of 50s and 60s couples flying their national flags (I was too shy to ask). Further along a 40s couple were paddling. He picked her up, threatening to throw her into the water. They waded out, I think contemplating some waist deep naughtiness, but perhaps decided they were a little close to one of the many boats moored just off shore - at least one with naturists on deck. (They wouldn't have minded!).

I didn't go far enough along to meet myself coming from the other direction - I was again getting into the male-dominated middle section. I'd guess the naturist section is a mile or more long in total.

All in all, if you aren't put off by the gays (stick to the north or south ends of the naturist section and don't venture into the sand dunes) Studland is a marvellous, spacious beach where couples, families, singles - everyone - can feel completely relaxed. Even if you've never been to a naturist beach before you wouldn't feel shy turning cartwheels in the sand here. Excellent."

Trip Report: 2002
"This is a wonderful beach on which to take an early morning nude walk or bathe in the sunner. There is something liberating about nakedness. I would say that for a staight man it is unnerving to be approached by gays so I would recommend that any hetrosexual taking a walk should take the beach instead of the dunes at the western end; I have found that the textiles take less notice of naturists than the gays, some might even have a giggle!"

Trip Report: June 2001

"After more than 20 years of beach naturism, a walking holiday along the Coast Path provided my first opportunity to visit Studland on a sunny mid-week day in early June. Having walked in from Burnbake campsite - see below - I chose to continue past 'FRP Six' along Ferry Road to the Sandbanks end and then back along the water's edge past Shell Bay to get to the naturist section. I was quite suprised to find how wide the beach is and how small the sand dunes are!

At first impression Studland seems like eveyone's dream of the ideal beach - soft golded sands, clean and relatively warm water - and naturism too. But - and it's a big "BUT" - the atmosphere was spoiled by the endless parade of men, some clothed, some naked, walking along the path which runs along the top of the seaward line of sand dunes. Clearly they find the higher elevation (about six feet) ideal for looking down upon the naturists just a few feet away on the beach below. I had read about the "meerkats" in the dunes but this was something I hadn't expected. By comparison, the shoreline walkers and even the National Trust and Police quad-bike patrols were inoffensive. The procession of men continued all day, seeming to outnumber the twenty or thirty couples who were the object of their attention. Having watched them carefully, I'm certain that most of them were there solely for the purpose of "getting a good look" and some of them would sit where a gap in the dune grasses provided a suitable view. Bearing in mind that this was a midweek day in early summer, I shudder to think of the number of voyeurs who probably congregate on busy days.

Studland must, once upon a time, have been a beautiful spot for naturism. Unfortunately, it seems to me that its high profile as Britain's best-known naturist beach combined with easy access have forever tainted this little bit of heaven in Dorset. This may seem a harsh judgement, based as it is on just one visit, but I prefer my beaches free from the "gawkers" Studland appears to attract. Sadly, I couldn't honestly recommend Studland to those trying naturism for the first time, especially women - they might well find the atmosphere distinctly offputting."

Trip Report: August 2001
"This is as close to a completely nude beach as one would hope. On busy weekends, most beach-goers are male (about 95%), most tend to be of retirement age or older. When people say it's clean, I think they mean the sand is clean. The sand is fabulous and thanks to the National Trust stays free of rubbish. The water however, only meets the lowest EU standards and many years ago I got a skin rash after I had gone for a swim, which has not happened to me in any place anywhere - not even in swimming pools. The water also tastes of petrol, which is also something I have not experienced elsewhere. I also got a nasty infection of the respiratory tract when I swam at Studland one day this summer. I've been with fever and chest pain for weeks. Finally, occasionally I read that the sea is very clear in Studland. When I have gone for a swim in Studland, the sea was anything but clear. Even on a sunny day, visibility was almost zero. The motorboats moving about among the swimmers can also be a potential hazard... I'd hope it will not hurt anyone if they are forwarned about the potential downside of swimming here."

Trip Report: August 2001
"After enjoying for the last few years the feeling of the sun and breeze on parts that do not normally share the privelege, I was pleased when this year my wife agreed to join me for a trip to the naturist beach. How sad that her experience was marred by the "pricks" in the dunes - the men intend on parading their anatomy and keeping an eye on everyone else. Why don't these people be honest and go to the beach in dirty macs, carrying binoculars? Or better still - go home and leave the beach for more normal people to enjoy."

Camping Facilities and Other Activities

Many who visit Studland choose to camp locally. Available sites include:

Studland Summer Camps - just up the road from Knitson's. A temporary campsite for naturists open Whit weekend and from the end of July to early September. Follow very small "SSC" signs from Ulwell village, north of Swanage, through the lanes to the field. Cost: £6 per night, £35 weekly. Facilities: WC and shower. Restrictions: no caravans (trailer tents/ motorcaravans are OK), no singles, no 'bodypiercers'. For details tel: 01903 750190

Burnbake - located off the road that runs from Corfe Castle to Studland. Go along this road and turn off (left coming from Corfe) down a narrow road marked Rempstone. Follow this past Rempstone Farm and keep going for about half a mile before turning right on to unsurfaced track. Studland is about 3 miles away on foot, more or less level walking on bridleways and the [private] road to the oil jetty. A gate at the back of the campsite is a useful shortcut - turn left on the forestry track and then right when you meet the tarmac road, follow signposts for 'Ferry Road' and then left toward FRP6 .

Burnbake is a textile site and rather basic, but they do have naturist weekends and are very friendly. Nice showers (£1 for four), small on-site shop, fresh bread, croissants and Danish pastries delivered before breakfast every morning (still warm sometimes) and daily papers. Pitch where you like, woods or field, lots of nooks and crannies. £8 per day for car plus two adults, £6.50 for single backpacker. ' Burnbake have a website.

Priestway Holiday Park "We found a really nice campsite at Priestway Holiday Park at the height of the season. No problems with finding a pitch. One large tent was £13 .... The site is in Priests Way Swanage about a 15 minute drive from Studland. This is a textile campsite but pretty laid back otherwise. On arrival we asked how long we could stay and were told "please yourself". We asked where to pitch and were told "where you like". Could we have barbecues? "if you like". We run out of questions pretty quickly and it was suggested we go and find a pitch and wander back when we were settled to pay. About two hours later we did so and were told we could use the facilities (club, bar, restuarant and for a fee the swimming pool) on the caravan van park next door. Great."

Seacombe Horse Riding Holidays offer riding holidays with Studland Stables, including riding on Studland Beach

Brighton Beach

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachBrighton's Black Rock Beach was declared an official nudist beach in 1980. It is situated between the Peter Pan's Playground and Black Rock stations of the Volks Electric Railway, which runs along the eastern part of Brighton's main beach (starting near the Sea-Life Aquarium). This pebble beach is overlooked by the road above, despite attempts to encircle it with a large bank of pebbles on all sides.

OK, so there's nothing inherently wrong with a nude beach. Vancouver has one. Big deal. Ha! But Brighton's Nude Beach (the place to be) is a special beach! It's the only nude beach I've seen where people who are not actually on the beach can gawp (that's gawp, not gape) at the ... spectacle. The reason for this is that while the beach's designers (do people really design beaches?) thoughtfully made the beach hidden from view at sea-level using tasteful, evergreen bushes (no naked trees here!), there are two walking promenades raised high above sea-level from whence one can observe all, in full, glowing technicolour. I can personally testify to the technicolour. On a cold and blustery day, hearty Canadians that Stephen and I are, we bundled up until we looked like abomidable clothes people and headed out to the supermarket. While walking along one of those higher promenades, Stephen and I happened to look down and catch full sight of a man parading about. Somehow he had lost his clothing. He didn't seem overly concerned as he vigorously walked about, waving his arms about with everything (and we mean everything) blowing in the wind. We weren't quite sure what all the waving was. We were sure of one thing: bet he wouldn't be doing that in Canada in January! I saw the same (well, I can't really be sure. One naked person from several hundred feet up in the air looks the same as another) man doing his "airing the tackle" bit on another day. This day, unlike the previous one, was a beautiful day. Not outdoor tanning weather in Edmonton, granted, but clear and sunny, it was. This time he wasn't alone. No, he hadn't been joined by other arm-waggling nudists but by the well-dressed citizenry of Brighton who were engaged in taking in the fresh air and the view. All of it. - copyright (1999-2004) Michelle A. Hoyle & Stephen B. Dodd.

When I paid a visit there last Summer I stayed there for barely a few minutes, and went onto the textile beach instead. The beach opened in 1980, and while I didn't visit it back then (I would have only been a toddler!), I'm sure it couldn't have been nowhere near as bad as it is now in those early years. The main textile beach on Brighton is very nice though, though obviously you won't be able to get nude! If however, you are down in Brighton then a brilliant health spa to visit is Bristol Gardens Health Spa . Can't recommend it enough, great place to relax naked, no oddball characters or dodgy behaviour going on, very clean premises, and very friendly staff. And don't be intimidated by going as a single female, you'll be absolutely fine. There's usually other females there, including some lone females too. - Eve (March 2005)

Officially opened in 1980, this is probably the best known, most accessible, most public naturist beach in the UK - and with some consequent problems. Not, perhaps, the best environment in which to try naturism for the first time. See the trip reports below.

Access & Parking

Brighton may be reached with ease by all main means of transport. On reaching the seafront, go to the main pier, west of the marina, then walk east to Peter Pan's playground and cross the Volk's Railway on to the beach.

Description

The beach is of shingle and pebbles, with consequent discomfort. If you choose to strip off, you are likely to find yourself playing to an unrestricted audience of binocular-wielding voyeurs - both on the beach and, often, in boats offshore. This might be heaven for some, but it sounds like hell to me.

Facilities

Every facility you could possibly want - and more -can be found in Brighton. None are accessible, of course, without dressing

Official Designation

Situated to the east of Palace Pier between Peter Pan's playground and the marina, this short stretch of Brighton's pebbly foreshore entered the history books in 1979, when it was designated an official clothing-optional beach.

A vociferous "No" campaign was unable to persuade Brighton councillors that bathing in the altogether was a disgrace and, following a trip to the site by a working party, the 59-strong Tory controlled-council passed the proposal.

The campaign for Brighton's nudist beach was led by Councillor Eileen Jakes and, as a result, she was accused of "pandering to weirdos and perverts".

"I was told I should be ashamed of myself and that I was a horrible lady," said Ms Jakes, who got into naturism during holidays to the south of France.

Fellow town councillor John Blackman said the beach was a "flagrant exhibition of mammary glands".

"I personally have no objection to people showing their breasts and bosoms and general genitalia to one another," said Blackman. "Jolly good luck to them, but for heaven's sake, they should go somewhere more private."

Brighton's deputy Mayor Alfred Feld said: "It is a bold move ... but we feel we are just moving with the times".

Trip Report - August 2005

"I visited Brighton this Summer with my wife. We had a brilliant time. The weather was lovely and beach clean and friendly as ever. There were lots of voyeuristic males. This does not really bother me. However my wife would like to say thanks to the guy who actually stripped off in front of her and stared at her naked body for 2 hours! Funnily enough, we went over the course of five days and by day two the guys stopped looking at me. My poor wife still got all the pervs. What a pity. We'll still go next year though"

Trip Report - August 2005

"I felt I should write a short note about my visit this weekend to the beach.

I read with interest the other contributions, but still decided to go along and try it out. Firstly, this weekend was the Brighton and Hove Gay and Lesbian Pride, so the nudist beach was fuller than I would expect, but there were straight couples. I am gay but saw no indiscretions, expect for the usual male watchers. The weather was lovely and everyone on the beach was friendly and quite happy to just get on with sunbathing. I would still encourage anyone to try this beach out before making an opinion on it.

I feel the directions to the beach as a little unclear and need to be made more simple. It took me ages to work out the directions. As you face Brighton pier, turn left and walk along the beach or road, until you come to bushes/park on your left. Directly on the right is the beach and the nudist boundary. If you walk along the road, you will have to cross over the railway line at some point (the Volk's Railway). This might make it easier to find."

Trip Report - May 2005

"As I live in Brighton, I occasionally go along to Black Rock beach. I hear it was a very good place to go in the 80's, early 90's which is a shame as I only discovered it in the late 1990's. Even though this beach is very local and convenient for me, I refuse to go onto it, as it is a complete meat market, and I wouldn't say that it is TRUE naturists that you find there.

"On the occasions that I have been there, I have been gawped at, and sometimes (when wanting a little privacy ) you find unwanted men moving themselves towards you. I tend to ignore people who generally only look, but here I feel watched, intimidated. Unfortunately directly behind the beach, across the small road is Dukes Mound, and this is a very well known cruising ground for gay men, although alot of "curious" straight men have hung about, hence the clothed men watching you from the sidelines. I am a gay man, 32 years old and even this ANNOYS ME SO MUCH!! Not only does it ruin my afternoon, but it shames us genuine gay male naturists, and gay men generally. Sometimes the beach (in the height of summer!) is crowded with a huge variation of people, men, women, old and young not to mention a fair amount of dogs, and only then is it a nice feeling where you are not stared at, and people don't often notice you trying to walk gracefully out of the sea. Those pebbles will kill you unless you take some good footwear and a branding iron for those "perverts"!!"

Comment - September 2005

"Brighton naturist beach was my very first experience of naturism. I think it was in 1980, just after it opened. I was only 10 years old and went there with my Dad. I remember it being quite busy, and at that age, I was completely relaxed about being naked in public as everyone else was.

Sadly, how times have changed. The atmosphere on the beach now is awful. As soon as you set foot on the beach you feel a hundred pairs of eyes watching your every move. Men masturbate openly, while on the edge of the beach a group of males scan the beach with binoculars and video cameras. I once saw a man performing oral sex on his partner in front of children. There should be beach patrols by seafront officers or lifeguards to discourage these offences from taking place. Perhaps even the police should make their presence felt so genuine naturists can reclaim this beach from the perverts and voyeurs.

This may sound like a strong comment, but many men are using the guise of naturism as an excuse to commit sex offences. I now mainly confine naturism to France, where behaviour such as this would simply not be tolerated. I would also encourage people to challenge the perverts and threaten them with calling the police - it is usually enough to see them off, and hopefully they may stay away forever."

Comment - June 2004

"I went to this beach yesterday and wished I'd seen this site beforehand.... I finally quit when another male began to openly masturbate in front of all his peers who were intently scrutinising his every move."

Comment - January 2004

"I just have read the several trips reports, I honestly think I can talk with as much authority than anybody as I have been using the Brighton beach since the very beggining, Spring & Summer 1980. In the 1980's and, maybe, early 90's the whole atmosphere was very good, a fantastic example of what a naturist beach should be, with hundreds, sometimes not short of the odd one thousand people, both sexes, swimming and sunbathing in the nude...

...the voyeurs, passers by, etc [we] did not mind so much then as we all felt so comfortable being so many of us, whole familes used to go there... Unfortunely from the middle 90's the whole thing started to get worse, the families started to desert the beach, [also] the couples and females, ...in the last two or three years the beach has been practically [taken over] by single males...

Yes, I am sorry to say that I have to agree with the people who say that Brighton beach, as it is now, is the worst place for practising naturism, I would never recomend it to anybody to try for the first time never mind couples of females. Unfortunely it seems that the trend is going to continue like that, myself I have almost given up and I am quite happy to practise naturism in my traveles abroad, Canary Islands, Ibiza and South of France, where naturists are left alone without having to put up with all the incoveniences that the users, naturist, of the Brighton [beach] have to.

"Having only visited this beach due to the inaccessibility of Fairlight Glen... I am rather upset to say that we have never felt so uncomfortable on a naturist beach. Having been on two separate occasions, once at the weekend and once on a weekday, it has the feeling of a meat market with everyone watching every one and plenty of fully clothed voyeurs.

The gay gents are no problem whatsoever as in our experience most naturist beaches are populated by many, it was in our opinion the single heterosexual men that were openly (and discretely without much success) staring at the few women on the beach, we even had to point out to one gentleman that he was looking in the wrong place to be reading his book. Another man was masturbating over a couple rubbing in sun cream without any sexual overtness. For heterosexual couples I would not recommend this beach... which is a great shame because it is clean and the water is great and fairly clear."

Trip Report - August 2003
" I have been a nudist for 10 years, but Brighton is the worst nude beach ever. How can it be official nude beach? It's a pervert beach not nudist.

Trip Report - June 2002
" Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed my first visit to Brighton's naturist beach. This was my first experience of a naturist beach and having read some of the reports on your website I was naturally a little apprehensive. Initially, this resulted in me being a little reluctant to remove all my clothing and so I chose to continue wearing a small bathing thong. However, after a short while a couple arrived next to me and we started chatting. They immediately removed all their clothing and I began to feel somewhat over-dressed. Sarah asked if I fancied a swim and we walked down to the waters edge. I seized the opportunity and removed my thong, leaving it with my sandals at the waters edge. Having had an exhilarating swim we returned to our spot on the beach - needless to say with me carrying my thong back. A great day out and a perfect venue for first-time naturism! I commend it to all."

Trip Report - 2002
"I don't think there are many gawkers now, though a few people still get 'lost' walking their dogs etc. along the beach! Best ignore them, and they soon lose interest...
A note about the groynes (waverbreaks) - best steer clear of the one nearest the marina, as some sharp rocks close by the water's edge. The upper ledge we find tends to be populated by gay couples / show-offs- no regard to the public on other side... "

Trip Report - 2002
"Located in Brighton with a strong gay community this beach clearly attracts its share of the homosexual population. However, as a heterosexual male naturist this has never been the slightest problem for me and of all the naturist beaches I have visited it is certainly the most accessible. I spent my summer holidays here in the immediate post-war years and the pebbles on the beach are no more forgiving now than they were then, so unless you have ironshod feet bring some flip-flops."

Trip Report - 2002
"I have visited the nudist beach at Brighton on three occasions. On each occasion the beach had no more than one female, and the other bathers were male homosexuals, with one or more of them openly masturbating. I think that previous reviewers of this beach should have mentioned this."

Trip Report - Summer 2001 "I visited in the afternoon of Tuesday 28/08/01. Not releasing where it was I parked near the West Pier and ended up taking the Volks Railway to the Marina. It was then only a short walk back to the 'Free' part of the beach which is protected from the view of those on the railway or promenade by a large bank of shingle about 100 metres long. It was a beautiful afternoon, warm and sunny and there were about 100 'bods' mainly single men (some in groups of 6 or 8) and a few couples. Beach/swimming shoes are essential as it is a very stony beach (I found a good pair for £5 in one of the beach kiosks near the pier). It shelves very quickly so is ideal for swimming as you only needed to go in a couple of metres to be in 6 feet of water! The people I sat near were friendly and readily agreed to take my photo with my dog, Bruce. I had an enjoyable experience and the access was the easiest of the 4 beaches I tried over the Bank Holiday weekend."

Trip Report - Summer 2001 "I was fortunate to go on a very warm day and the naturist beach was quite busy. I hadn't expected there to be so many clothed/covered people on the beach including quite a few obvious voyeurs. I stripped off straight away in case my bottle went and found a place to lie. The pebbles are an immediate nuisance, especially when you go in the sea. Indeed the only embarrassing part of the experience was the sight of my white bottom popping up and down from the sea as I tried to keep my balance! The experience was exhilarating and I was buzzing for the rest of the day."

Trip Report - 16/7/99 "I visited Brighton nudist Beach for the first time on Friday and was at a bit of a loss as to where it was and if I could park close by. I think the following might be of use to other first time visitors. Drive towards the sea front and look out for 'To the marina' signs. Follow signs for the Marina or drive East (Left as you face the sea) through the centre of Brighton along the sea front keeping in to the right hand traffic lane. You will see signs for the Marina Village. Take this lane and then keep to the left lane as you do. Drive into the marina area and you are faced with a 9 level multi storey FREE car park. You arrive on the 9th storey and can wind your way down, viewing the next level to see if there are parking bays available. There is an ASDA store opposite this car park handy for various items from clothing to food and drink. [When coming out of the car park, head out towards Asda and climb the stairs by the car wash. The beach is then in front of you.] With the marina at your back walk West to the beach. The nudist beach is a few hundred yards from there and at the first stop of the little railway. I hope that this manages to help those who might contemplate this beach but are a bit mystified as I was."

Fairlight Glen

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachThe unofficial nudist beach of Fairlight Glen is about one mile east of Hastings. The path from the cliffs has recently been washed away making the route down somewhat precarious. Another way to reach this nude beach is by walking east from the main beach at Hastings. But it's certainly worth the effort to reach this magnificent beach of golden sand and scattered rocks, backed by high sandstone cliffs.

Fairlight Glen lies about 2 miles East of the fishing port of Hastings and 1.5 miles west of the small village of Fairlight Cove on the East Sussex coast. It is a wooded area forming part of the Hastings country park and leading down to Covehurst Bay. This is a nudist beach, but is shared by ordinary visitors. The name Covehurst Bay is not normally used for the beach, but is marked on OS maps.

The beach is mainly shingle with large boulders and some patches of sand, particularly at low tide. The main cove lies between lower cliff areas formed in major cliff collapses some time in the past. There are no facilities or buildings of any kind on the beach, nor in the country park on the cliffs above. The harbour arm of Hastings is just visible at low tide, as is the nuclear power station at Dungeness a few miles further east.

It can be reached by walking from Hastings along the hilly clifftop path until a signpost points out a pathway leading down the cliff to the cove. Immediately north of the beach is Hastings country park where parking is available after a steep 20 minute walk. Further to the east along the clifftop is a coastguard station and alternative parking for visitors to the park. It is normally possible to walk along the beach to Hastings, but this may be cut off at high tide. It may be possible at low tide to walk east along the beach to Fairlight Cove.

The 100 ft high cliffs are sandstone and clay which is subject to erosion. Access to the beach is partially obstructed by a fence accompanied by a warning notice about cliff falls. This was erected when the original wooden steps were swept away in such a fall. Alternative steps have been cut into the path by users, but be prepared for a bit of a climb. Water quality had been indifferent in the past but work to local drainage systems has improved this. Anyone contemplating swimming should be aware of hidden rocks and the absence of lifeguards or normal rescue services. Occasionally people have been rescued by helicopter from the beach or cliffs.

Fairlight Glen - formerly an official naturist beach - lies roughly midway along the coast between Hastings to the west and the delightful town of Rye to the east. In fact, the beach is Covehurst Bay, at the bottom of Fairlight Glen. Fairlight Cove is a seaside village a mile and a half to the east. Owing to cliff erosion there are continuing problems with safe access to this beach.

Route 1 Fairlight Road Picnic Site (which has toilets).
From the A21, A28, A2100 junction in Baldslow (north of Hastings) take the B2083 signposted to Ore. After about 3 miles turn right at the A259 (it's a T-junction with traffic lights and a traffic island). Almost immediately, turn off left (very sharp turn) into Fairlight Road, signposted to the Country Park. After 3/4 mile there's a Picnic Site car park - park there. The beach is a 1 mile walk from here. Cross the road and take the track, it's signposted as a footpath. There used to be a cafe after half a mile but it's closed down. Fork right before the cafe, then left before you get to the field gate. The first bit of path through the woods is essentially a stream bed, very rough and often muddy. Keep going downhill until you come to a T-junction. Turn left and over the stream and you'll see that the path is blocked and a notice says there no access to the beach.

Route 2. Coastguard Lane (toilets).
A further mile along Fairlight Road turn right into Lower Coastguard Lane. This leads to a car park with toilets and information centre. From here it's is a longer walk than Route 1 but useful if the other car park is full. You'll end up at the "no access" sign as in Route 1.

Route 3. Barley Lane (no toilets).
From the centre of Hastings head to the sea and take the A259 along The Bourne east of Hastings Castle. Fork right into Harold Road and soon turn right into Barley Lane. The car park is about 3/4 mile along on the right. From the car park take the path south, then turn left, then turn right, then turn left, then turn right. At the cliffs the path bears left - keep going for just over half mile until you cross a stream in woodland. You'll come to the "no access" sign as in Route 1.

Route 4. Walk from Hastings.
To walk from Hastings, follow the beach east past the Castle Hill to the East Cliff Railway, then either ascend to the Country Park and follow the paths always turning right until you come to the "no access" notice.

Alternatively it is possible to walk along the beach from the East Cliff Railway, but ONLY when the tide is out - YOU MUST CHECK THE LOCAL TIDE TABLE BEFORE ATTEMPTING IT. It is about 2.5 miles from the railway to the beach, and at sea level it is shingle walking, though this route is surprisingly popular especially for dog walkers. There is no beach access from the east (Rye and Fairlight Cove direction) due to rock formations extending into the sea.

Following cliff falls which destroyed the wooden steps formerly used to descend the cliff, the access route to this beach has been declared dangerous and therefore officially 'closed' by the local authority. Despite this, reports suggest that some naturists continue to find their way to this beach, despite the closure of the official acccess route.

WE ADVISE AGAINST ATTEMPTING TO REACH THE BEACH BY WAY OF THE CLIFF

On the beach there is a tendency for naturists to head east and textiles to keep west of the cove. Don't go round the corner to the east in front of the cliff fall if the tide is coming in - you will be forced to move. Some sources recommend parking near Ore and walking through the copse to Barley Lane, briefly westward and then south again to Fairlight Glen. Others suggest that you park at the Country Park at Fairlight Glen. The beach itself is reached via steps down the cliff, reputedly 92 in number. The most energetic all can walk the coast path all the way from Hastings. Walk or take the lift up at the end of Rock A Nore Road and then walk east to Fire Hills. Go past Ecclesbourne Glen and continue until you reach Fairlight Glen.

The south facing cove has a shingle beach, with sand and rocks at low tide. At high tide the beach slopes quite steeply, but when the sand first appears be careful of submerged rocks. The cliffs are of soft sandstone with a good deal of vegetation, mostly goat willow bushes, but a fair number of wild flowers and land song birds in season add to the attractiveness. The rock pools host beadlet sea anemones, but the beach is very poor for shells. Unfortunately virtually no shade of any use, except in late afternoon when the sun goes behind the cliffs. The only motorised noise is from the occasional aircraft or motor boat. Atmosphere is excellent - with a good mixture of singles, couples and quite a few families with children. Don't go round the corner to the east in front of the cliff fall if the tide is coming in - you will be forced to move.

The difficult access now deters most beachgoers which means that only naturists tend to make the effort.

The Country Park itself is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and provides some entertaining walking (with clothes) if you want a change from sitting around or swimming, or if the weather turns cold.

Facilities

None on the beach itself - are there ever? - but all the usual facilities are available in Hastings.

Water Quality

Described by one source as 'The usual English Channel mixture but above average as it meets the lower EEC standard.. '

During the summer (assuming we have one, the British weather being what it is) David and I like to get down to the coast. The beach at Fairlight Glen in Covehurst Bay (map) is our favorite spot. It is reached via a walk of about a mile along a farm track, the paths of Fairlight Glen which is a country park, and a steep and quite tricky scramble down the eroding cliff path. The erosion of the cliffs in the area contributes to the outstanding beauty, but due to the safety hazard has meant that the path to the beach is now officially closed. For those unwilling to tackle the path, the beach can still be reached by walking East along the beach from Hastings.

The beach has for some years been used by the local and not-so-local naturists, and for some time a sign was displayed warning visitors at the top of the cliff path. As the path is now closed the sign has gone, however the naturists remain and clothing is in practice optional on the beach.

The swimming is good, although the English channel is rarely 'warm', it makes a great way to cool off after sunbathing or walking along the beach. There are rocks along the shore line, so care must be taken, but there are a couple of places which are fairly clear at all states of the tide.

I can recommend this beach on the south coast - Fairlight Glen near Hastings (Kent) is wonderful when its warm, but difficult to find without prior knowledge. - London Joe.

Further to Joes' endorsement of Fairlight. Yes it is a lovely beach when the weather is good, however it is in E.Sussex (still near Hastings) and due to soil erosion the access is precarious to say the least. No facilities at all, so you need to carry everything down with you and it is definitely not suitable for young children as the walk back up after a day on the beach is horrendous. - June (February 2006)

Cala Bassa

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachCala Bassa Beach is on the west coast of Ibiza near San Antonio. During the peak summer months it is usually too crowded with textile holidaymakers for nudist use, so the smaller beach at Cala Conta is recommended for naturism at such times. The nearby campsite of Camping Cala Bassa mentions a nude beach.

Not really nude during August, September and quite a mixture of all types, textiles, G strings, topless no problem and some nude as there are ferry/taxis from San Antonio that go there throughout the day, I suppose if you walked to a quiet spot or out of season you may get many more nudes as everything is quieter. - Brian (April 2006)

Cala Nova Coves

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachCala Nova Coves are on the northeast coast of Ibiza near Es Cana. These secluded coves are often used for nude sunbathing. Nearby Camping Cala Nova is a good base, with its own supermarket and accommodation of wooden bungalows, mobile homes, Bengali tents and pitches for normal tents. Unfortunately, when I was there in 2004 noisy hippies camping on the adjacent wasteground were a problem.

When I visited Cala Nova in July and August 2004 there was nude sunbathing in the smaller coves to the left of the main beach at Cala Nova (as you face the sea). The photo link above shows the largest of these coves which has a good amount of clean sand. It's a bit of a scramble to get down to though. There are smaller coves if you continue in this direction. In the other direction (heading right as you face the sea) there is just one small cove which you can walk to at low tide but you may have to wade back at high tide or climb up the 20ft cliff! - nudistbeaches.info

Playa de Es Cavallet

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachThe southern end of Playa de Es Cavallet is frequently used for naturism, although this particular beach has a reputation for gay use (more than other nude beaches in Ibiza). There are sand dunes backing the beach.

I have just had my final film back from our recent holiday and this picture (above) of Playa Des Cavallets may be useful to you for building your website. You can just see the bar/restaurant called "Chiringay" in the distance, with the flags. This end of the beach is mainly used by the gay community. There are sunbeds and parasols for hire at both ends of the beach - all naturist. We stayed around the bar/restaurant at the carpark end, which had a superb fish menu. The cheap end of the menu was Tuna with Tomatoes, Lettuce hearts with anchovies, Anchovies in batter, or sardines, around 8 euros. at the top end of the menu was Lobster, langoustine and all types of Spanish fish dishes from anything up to 50 euros. Two sunbeds and a parasol cost 15 euros to hire for the day in June 2005, rising to 17 euros in July. However, they had full length cushions and fitted cotton sheets, which were changed daily. In the far distance, on the headland, you can see the Martello tower, "Ses Portes", which is about a two mile walk from the picture, naked all the way! - Brian C, KENT (July 2005)

Punta de Portes

Nude BeachPunta de Portes is an area of headland which extends from Es Cavallet nude beach to the trendy beach of Las Salinas. There are numerous paths across it but just keep your sense of direction and you won't get lost. This headland has many small coves along its edge which are nearly all frequented by naturists. Many coves are quite sandy, while others are mainly rocks.

My wife, Jean, has given me permission to send you these pictures of her on the Punta de Portes headland behind Playa Des Cavallets (you can see the flags on one of the beach restaurants behind her) and three of her posing in one of the deserted coves around the point. You can see Formentera in the background. We had some lovely two hour walks around this scrubland, seeing no more than a handful of other people. There are many small sandy bays dotted along this headland (that ends at playa Ses Salines) where you can wade and watch the fish swim around your legs. Bliss! - Brian C, KENT (July 2005)

Playa Es Calo

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachEs Calo is a small fishing village on the north facing shore of Formentera, just west of La Mola. The main beach is called Playa Es Calo or Ses Platgetes Beach. As on most of Formentera's beaches, nude sunbathing is commonplace.

We went to Formentera in late September 2005. We booked a self catering package to Es Calo via Astbury Travel which seems to be the major package company serving the island. I'd recommend the island and the travel company to anyone who is looking for a relaxed holiday in a place which is truly clothing optional.

Either Formentera or Astbury seem to generate a very high degree of repeat business - so much so that many people seem to book the same accommodation in the same weeks each year. On the way out there we met up with two other couples who were returning to the island for the umpteenth time and all raved about the place. It must say something about the place to generate this commitment!

We stayed at Campanitx villas on the edge of Es Calo. There are five villas dotted around a small wooded area each sleeping two to four people. The accommodation was basic but quite adequate for our needs. The village of Es Calo is on the main road through the middle of the island and although not noisy most of the time we could hear traffic occasionally. There are shops nearby and a few local restaurants - all very convenient for self catering or eating out. Apparently Es Calo had a reputation as a hippy centre at one stage, although there is little sign of it now.

The local beach (called Ses Platgetes) is very near to the villa and the village - easy walking distance or even easier on the bicycles that we hired and everyone else seems to use. Nearly as easy to get to is Migjorn beach on the other (south) side of the island, accessible via one of the very nice "green routes" for bicycles or walkers or cars. In each case we could easily hire sunbeds (I recall at 3 Euros each per day but I may have misremembered). The beaches are not spectacular to look at - there is some sand but lots of rocky outcrops also.

We found that every beach we went to was clothing optional. About a third or a half of the people there were naked and the rest covered up. At no stage did either I (naked) or my wife (bikinied) feel out of place. People tended to don something to go to the beach bars, but no-one bothered about this when paying the chap collecting cash for the sunbeds or when swimming or when walking on the beach. We dressed to get to and from the beach and this seems to be the norm (although I gather that folk staying at some places on the beach - Talaya and Ses Platgetes villas for example - do not bother to do so). We were also hidden away enough to be naked in and about the villa as the mood took us.

Don't go there if you are looking for nightlife (we didn't find any). Note also that there is no direct flight from the UK - flights are to Ibiza and then a ferry is needed to get to the island. All of this is very well organised organised but late or early flights can mean that an overnight stay is needed.

I'd recommend the Island for a truly clothing optional holiday - for example if you would like to go naturist but your spouse or family does not wish to. - Ross and Sally, (June 2006)

Playa El Mago

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachPlaya El Mago is an official nudist beach southwest of Palma, the capital of Mallorca. A golf course separates the beach from nearby Magaluf. You will find this beach to be very busy most of the time. The beach is composed of sandstone, rather than pure sand, and has rocky outcrops at either end. There is also an excellent seafood restaurant on this beach.

Playa El Mago - Balearic Islands
Author: Ray Getzinger 9/29/2002

One Beach I have spent at least two weeks a year for the past several years is Playa El Mago on the island of Majorca (Mallorca) in the Spanish Balearic Islands.

The beach is sandstone rather than sand. There is a wonderful seafood restaurant right on the beach. It is a cove surrounded by steep cliffs with a wonderful view of the Mediterranean on one side. The water is deep enough to dive right off the sandstone shelf and clear enough to see all the way to the bottom.

Snorkling and diving take place in the area. I am not a diver, but there seems to be diving every day in the summer.

On Sundays I have counted up to 200 boats anchored in the cove and several large yachts in as close as they can get with owners either sun bathing on the decks or jet skiing into the beach. There is a place to tie a boat at the edge of the sandstone shelf. I saw one family tie up so their friends could board the boat and then they went out to anchor for a picnic.

Across the cove is a topless beach called Portal Vells. At Portal Vells there are caves in the sides of the cliffs that people explore while on the beach. The whole area above the cliffs is forested and it is fun to walk the trails. There are picnic tables at convenient places along the trail.

Around the corner from El Mago above the cliffs are some condominiums. Many of the residents come down from the condos nude to enjoy the beach.

The beach is located to the south of Magaluf containing the island's only casino and along with Palma Nova nearby are populated with Germans and British so if you are deficient in Spanish you can speak German or English. There is a water theme park just outside Magaluf, then there is a 3 wheel motorcycle rental place and lawn bowling club. Further on there is a challenging golf course that is mostly an uphill course that is great exercise if you walk it. The signs all say Portal Vells until you get to the turn off for El Mago with the main road continuing on to Portal Vells.

You need to be in good physical condition to get down to the beach if you are not one of the fortunate few able to get a parking place at the bottom of the hill.

I forgot to mention that the island is famous for the best cultured pearls in Europe. The largest city is Palma de Mallorca. The island has many more things to offer than a nude vacation. The Spanish like to party late at night. On New Year's 2000 there was a free outdoor rock concert that broke up at 3 AM and from there people went to the clubs to spend the rest of the night. There were still people out at 6 AM when I went back to my ship. There are windmills on the farms that look like the ones in Holland. The island is beautiful. There are more nude beaches, I just happen to like El Mago.

Playa Es Trenc

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachPlaya Es Trenc is a popular nudist beach in Mallorca. On busy days you will need to head right (as you face the sea) to find the naturist section. This beach of fine, golden sand is backed by dunes and scrubland. There are low rocky outcrops which shelve gently into the sea (which also seems to contain large quantities of seaweed). Playa "Es Trenc". Official naturist beach, very large beach, nudists in the middle of the beach, mixed use, especially on Sundays.

Here are directions from the Rocamarina hotel in Cala D'or to Es Trenc. From the hotel, go to end of one-way street and turn right. At the next roundabout (about 100 yards) take first exit (right). Follow the road as it goes round a bend and up to a roundabout. Take second exit signposted "Porto Petra". Follow this road as it splits into a one-way road, round the bay and past the restaurant "Pavarotti". Turn right at the next junction heading for the town, "Alqueria Blanca". The road goes straight through this town and on towards a large town called, "Santanyi". Just before Santanyi, there is a turning right, which bypasses the centre and should be signposted "Palma". Follow this road, across the next roundabout and then take the first exit (right) at the next roundabout (there is a supermarket on the opposite side of the roundabout as you approach it). This road takes you towards a large town called "Campos" This road is quite long and straight. Just as you approach Campos, there are four blue windmills on your left, followed by another two windmills, one on each side of the road (if I remember right, one is blue and one is green). Just after these windmills is a turning left signposted, "Colonia de Saint Jordi" and "Es Trenc". Follow this road for a couple of miles, past the dairy with the smelly cows and across the next roundabout. You should now be on a dual carriageway road. When this dual carriageway ends, almost exactly a kilometre further is an old windmill base (no sails) with a sign for Es Trenc. Turn right and follow the narrow road past the salt lakes to the end, where you will find a carpark. Pay the man 5 euros and drive as far as you can to the front (best if you get there about 10.00am). Walk to the beach and turn right. It gets very crowded at the first beach bar so the best advice is to grab your sun beds as close as possible to the second beach bar If you look back into the dunes at this point, you will find another, more upmarket restaurant just a short walk away. Take as little or as much clothes off as you dare and happy tanning! It should take you about 45 minutes from the hotel to the beach. - Brian C, KENT (July 2005)

I visited this beach on 5 April 2005. I followed the directions to the nudist section which I read in a guidebook and enjoyed a very warm sunny day. There were few nudists at that time, possibly the water was too cold for many folk. There are sheltered areas behind the beach with low scrub which affords protection from a cool wind and from any textiles walking along the shoreline. Unfortunately the naturist part of the very extensive bay is where seaweed gathers and is washed up on the sand as metre high collections. The seaweed looks as if it has been chopped up and is a small leafed variety not the long clinging variety. There is a good car park just behind the beach. Go to the beach, turn left for the naturist section, right for textiles. I cycled to the car park and chained the bike to wooden fencing. - Paul M. (December 2005)

My wife and I went on holiday to Majorca in 2003. Although we stayed at Carla Mondrago (noisy hotel but fantastic beaches) I had read about the nudist beach at Es Trenc. We found a taxi rank at Carla D'or which advertised the beach on a photo wall so we asked him to take us. As I had read there were not many facilities there I asked about the pick up. Niether of us spoke each others language but the helpful driver managed to inform us he would return at 4.00 pm. The journey was good but as we drove through barren salt fields I was starting to have my doubts. We eventually arrived at a large dirt, but well cleared car park. The size of it (supported by my construction industry backgroud) gave me some optomism because of it's size. Large. We walked 400 metres, not advisable for a wheel chair but a group could possibly carry one over the distance, and eventually passed through the sandy/bushy edge of the beach. Fantastic. We were greeted with a sandy, flat, beach extending to a very blue sea. As we walked towards the edge of the sea the geography became clear. We had come out in the middle of a 5km wide bay. The beach narows to 30/60 metres aroud the flanks, but are lined with sun loungers and two or three bar and food huts. These are roofed and serve very cold drinks for everyone. In my pigeon acting I asked for the location of the nudist beach. As you face the sea it is to the right. It was all very civilised. The bushes and type of land use behind added to a sense of security. Everyone seemed to get on with enjoying the sun. The water is like a lake. Very shallow for a long, long way and absolutely clear. Perfect for children of all ages. I am suprised to read an article on this site which claims no facilities. I claim the opposite and cannot wait to go back. The taxi turned up fifteen minutes late but to us that was perfect. - Paul, Colchester

Binigaus Beach

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachBinigaus Beach is a remote, pale sand beach on the south coast of Menorca, surrounded by pine groves and with rocky outcrops at either end. Sometimes in high season nudists migrate to the adjoining beach of Playa Sant Adeonato. Access is via the Pm-711 road from Migjorn Gran to the coastal village of Sant Tomas. Avoid the larger textile beach of Es Migjorn Gran by parking and walking about 800 metres.

Playa Son Bou

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachPlaya Son Bou is approximately half way along Menorca's south coast near the resort of San Jamie (Sant Jaume). The main section of this very long beach is dominated by two large hotels, although there is plenty of room for nude sunbathing towards the western end of the beach. There are also sand dunes for extra privacy. The water is shallow for paddling, although the waves and currents can be strong and beware of the sharp seaweed which can leave broken spines in your feet. There are many facilities nearby and parking is easy.

Son Bou Naturist beach is located about 400m to the west of the main Son Bou beach and main car park. The first natural gap in the sand dunes signifies the start of the naturist area. From this point on for the next kilometre or so, nude sunbathing is the norm. There are sunbeds and parasols available for hire (6 euros & 5 euros, 2005) in the immediate section of naturist beach. The sea is gently shelving, but the waves coming in can be very strong so some care needs to be taken with children. The beach itself is ideal for walking, something which hasn't been missed by other holidaymakers who seem to enjoy looking at all of the naked flesh! - C.N. (November, 2005)

The beach is separated from the rest of the town by a nature reserve and marsh area. As you go west between the two there is an ever increasing area of dunes. Basically, once you are past the main beach area, you're in naturist country, with increasing numbers of folk peeled off. I also gather - having spoken to various folk - that in mid season only swingers would be quite happy in the dunes (but not on the beach which is quite conventional naturist). If you go there, bear in mind 3 things: 1) there is little protection from the Sun.. so take plenty of water and sun cream; 2) mind the sea holly !!! Boy is it sharp.. I stood on one bit pulled it out of my foot and got bits in my hand in doing so that I didn't get out until I got home. I also ended up helping someone else get some out of her foot. Therefore, Flip flops or similar are recommended for this beach ; 3) in high season be careful of your belongings while in the dunes. Having said all this it is nice and, although the sea is normally gentle, it can be rough there and when it is there is a strong undertow so look at the lifeguard station for the flags. Incidentally it was on this beach that I awoke to find a small lizard sun basking on my bum! - Kev

Duna Alta

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachTo reach Duna Alta (High Dune), travel West on IP5 to Aveiro-Sul until Praia da Barra, then South towards Vagueira. Go in front, pass two Camping Sites and immediatly after the second one you will find a small sand road to your right, where you can take the car and park. The beach is 50 meters ahead. North of the access to the beach there is a Camping site with an Aquapark, the Vaga Splash. Long white sand beach, shallow dunes and calm sea. Nudism is frequent and the place is very discreet, not with many people. Wide stretch of sand, very clean. Sometimes you'll see people riding horses, for hire nearby, but they will stay on the high dunes.

Bela Vista

PureNudism.com - Nudist Family & Nude Lifestyle Photography

Nude BeachBela Vista is Portugal's largest official nude beach, consisting of white sand and dunes for about 3km. Many nudists head for the southern part of the beach for extra peace and quiet. This nude beach has a few basic facilities including a car park and cafe. To get there, drive 7km south from Costa de Caparica and turn right just after Praiado Rei. Park at the end of the dirt road. There is also a coastal train which runs from Costa de Caparica - Bela Vista is stop 19.

From Lisbon, go South to Caparica and south again all the way to the last access to the beaches (past Praia do Rei) and until the end of the dust road. Upon Bela Vista, walk south, to the left of the Restaurant. It's some 2 miles of white sand beach and dunes. Alternatively, take the "Turispraia" little train at Caparica and leave at Stop 19. You can reach Bela Vista from south, turning right at Fonte da Telha village and all the way to the end of the dust road - then it's a hundred yards to the shore and the whole beach is to your right. Here, the parking is free.

Very wide beach, excelent for sunbathing, shallow waters, lots of vegetation on the dunes, very convenient on windy days.
